The Arrival of Quinn

Quinn Phoenix arrived on Wednesday, December 3rd at 1:38 pm. I had a really quick labor...I started having contractions at home around 9:30 and they were about 3-4 minutes apart. I called the doctor's office and they told me to come in to get checked. As we were leaving, my water broke! When I got to the doctor's office, I was having more painful contractions and found that I was 6-7 centimeters dilated already, to my great surprise! We headed to the hospital (11:30) (with Griffin in tow) and I went straight to the maternity floor. Quinn arrived about two hours later!

Now we've been home for a week and Quinn has fit right in! Griffin really seems to love him and is very eager to help. He throws away diapers, swiffers the floor and gets things for me when I'm nursing the baby. He also loves to give Quinn kisses and hugs!! I really feel so lucky to have both of my boys and Eric.

October 22, 2008

Last weekend, Griffin stayed overnight with Auntie....he hasn't been away from us overnight, except once when he was about six months old and we went to the Pillar and Post for two days! Eric and I went to Rolling Hills in Bethany for a ghost hunt. Spooky!! It was hair-raisingly exciting! Mark and Andrea went with us, too. We didn't see any ghosts, but Eric said he heard someone breathing in his ear! Zoinks!!! Auntie said that Griffin was very well-behaved but VERY energetic the next morning!

Not much new to report...Atticus continues to mover around a lot! I went to the doctor again last Friday for another check-up...he keeps growing and I could hear his heartbeat again. Everything was fine!

October 12, 2008

We had a good long weekend. Angie and I took Griffin to Becker Farm on Saturday...he really loves to pet the goats and pony. We also listened to the band playing some kids'songs and walked around the pumpkin patch. Griffin seemed to be quite intrested in looking at some freaky green gourds and squash. It was really fun!

Saturday night we visited Grandpa Gary and Grandma Janet...Uncle Rick and Aunt Maddy came to visit from Boston.

On Sunday, Griffin helped me with some gardening...for about 2 minutes! We were pulling the flowers out...he put a stem up his nose and laughed at himself...I laughed too! It was so funny!! Eric and Griffin went the the Royalton Ravine and walked across the suspension bridge!????!!! Sounds scary, but Griffin really enjoyed the leaves and walked all by himself the whole way!

Today, Griffin went grocery shopping with me...he was loudly singing songs and eating his complimentary piece of bologna as we shopped. We played with his alphabet puzzle, sang songs, and watched tv. Daddy took him to the Lockport trail to take some pics with Emmett and the beautiful leaves.

Whew! Off to work again tomorrow....Atticus continues to be VERY active!

October 6, 2008

Well, I went to the doctor the other day and I've gained 22 pounds so far! With my last pregnancy, I only gained about 18 pounds, total! Maybe Atticus will be bigger than Griffin!

On Saturday, we took Griffin to ride the train in Arcade. He was scared of the steam engine when it started, but seemed to love the ride! Grandma Jo and Paw-Paw came, too. The leaves were beautiful...orange, red, yellow all over the place, although not at their full peak quite yet. Griffin also enjoyed blowing his train whistle and throwing rocks from a pile when we stopped at the train station in Curriers. I can't imagine riding on a train like that cross-country!

Yesterday, I was having an emotional moment...crying on the couch. Griffin was so sweet! He came over to me and said "You sad?" and touched my cheek. It was very comforting!!! I just can't believe how much I love him!!!

September 21, 2008

Not much new to report today. The baby continues to move and likes to lodge his foot under my ribs! It's kind of fun to play "Guess That Part" when I'm lying on the couch and he starts to get really active. Eric and Griffin have gone grocery shopping and they'll be home soon, so I'll sign off for now.

September 18, 2008

I decided to start this blog to document the details of my sons' lives. My oldest son, Griffin, is 2. His brother, who we call "Atticus Finch", will be arriving sometime around December 2nd. We haven't settled on a name yet, so Atticus it is for now.

I continue to work at my job as a special education teacher and my husband, Eric, works as a second grade teacher (no thanks!). Work is becoming increasingly more difficult because Atticus is becoming heavier every day! I can feel him moving around frequently and I often see my stomach morphing into weird shapes here and there as he does his acrobatics. I'm excited to meet him, but nervous at the same time. I wonder how I'll be able to love another child as much as I love Griffin. Is that even possible? Then I feel like a horrible mother for having such thoughts! Anyway, I've been told that you kind of grow another heart for your second child and I hope that's true.

Today I stayed home from work because I was struggling with my asthma, yet again. I've had a cold for the past week or so, which is always a trigger. When Griffin came home from daycare, he gave me a big hug and kiss, which I always look forward to. He sang "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to Atticus and also "burped" my belly. He likes to pat my tummy and then makes a burping sound...it's so funny! When he went to bed, he kissed my belly button to say goodnight. I always feel so amazed to look at how big he's gotten and it's so hard to imagine how he could have acquired language so quickly!! Today he said, in a whole sentence, "Mommy, can I have goldfish please?" Last year at this time, I think he was saying a few very basic words like "ball" and "mommy" and "daddy". It's strange to think of holding another tiny baby soon.

Hopefully, I'll be off to work again tomorrow...
